About Permaculture Design at Merritt College
Welcome! Merritt College is proud to be one of the first community colleges in the nation to offer a certificate in Permaculture Design. Our two-year program provides students with a firm understanding of sustainable design principles, while our 7.5 acre campus gives them the space to put those principles into practice.
Two semesters of Permaculture Design courses make up the core of the curriculum. Courses meet once a week, and the half lecture and half practical format allows students ample time for hands-on experience in organic farming, natural building and water harvesting techniques.
To achieve a Certificate in Permaculture Design, students can choose from a wide array of courses offered by the Landscape Horticulture Department that reflect their particular interests in the field of sustainable design. These include Natural Building, Mushroom Cultivation, Landscape Design and many others. Current class schedules can be accessed HERE. Program requirements to complete the certificate can be found on the Merritt College Website.
